Welcome to the Coast Guard Auxiliary !

Now that you've received your Member Number, what's the next step?

Uniforms

One of the first things you would need to do if you haven't yet done so is to obtain a uniform

A good general purpose uniform that is suitable for Flotilla meetings and events where you would be interacting with the Public (such as Vessel Examinations, Boating Classes, and Boat Shows ), is the Tropical Blue Long (click on the name to view an image) .

It consists of: Navy Blue dress pants, a short sleeved light blue shirt, dress shoes, and a cover - which can be the baseball cap style, garrison cap, or combination cap.

A number of members like to spend time on the water assisting in patrols. The recommended uniform in this case is the ODU (Operational Dress Uniform)

It consists of: Navy Blue work pants, a Navy Blue work blouse, workboots, and a cover - which is the baseball cap style.

Terminology

By now, you've probably also heard a number of terms and abbreviations that make absolutely no sense to you.

The primary source for finding answers to these and other questions is the Auxiliary Manual.

Another excellent source of information is the Knowledge Base located on the National Website (www.nws.cgaux.org)

Paperwork

Like most organizations, the Auxiliary has its share of paperwork.

One of the most important pieces of paperwork (forms) you will use as a member of the Auxiliary is the 99 form.

Used to record time spent by an Auxiliarist performing any Auxiliary related task or function, it is important as the hours accumulated by Auxiliarists are used by the Coast Guard in the decision to provide funding and resources to the various Districts, Divsions and Flotillas. Even an amount as small as an hour should not be overlooked.

The following link on the National Website will take you to the Forms page.

Should you have any additional membership related questions, please contact your Flotilla Commander, Vice Flotilla Commander, or Personnel Services Staff Officer.
